Olivia Wilde talks Don't Worry Darling drama

Ahead of the release of Don't Worry Darling tomorrow, Olivia Wilde addressed the rumours that have been taking the internet by storm in an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

There's been reports of feuds between actors behind the scenes, and confusion over whether Shia LaBeouf's departure was his decision, or Olivia's.

Shia LaBeouf

Let's begin with the Shia LaBeouf drama.

Basically, Shia was replaced by Harry Styles on the film, and Olivia previously told Variety that he was let go.

She said it was because, 'His process was not conducive to the ethos that [she demands] in [her] productions.'

'He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances,' Olivia said.

The director continued, 'I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work.'

'Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job.'

Shia however, denies he was fired from the production and insists it was his decision to step away from the film.

He forwarded emails he allegedly sent to Olivia onto Variety, in which he wrote, 'You and I both know the reasons for my exit.'

'I quit your film because your actors and I couldn’t find time to rehearse.'

There's been a lot of confusion around this, so Stephen Colbert asked Olivia to clear things up.

She explained, "Early on in the process of making the film, as the director, I tried to mediate a situation between people to see if they could work together happily."

"Once it became clear that it was not a tenable working relationship, I was given an ultimatum."

"I chose my actress, which I’m very happy I did. At the time, was I bummed that we weren’t able to make it work? Sure."

"Did information about him come to light later that made me confident we made the right decision? Absolutely."

Is she feuding with Florence Pugh?

Rumours have been swirling that the director is secretly feuding with the lead of her new film, Florence Pugh.

However, she insist this is not true: "I have nothing but respect for Florence's talent. She's fantastic."

"She's on the set of her movie Dune right now."

Olivia went on, "There's nothing cooler than a busy actress. I have nothing against her for any reason."

"I think what's funny is like, I don't feel like my male director colleagues are answering questions about their cast."

Stephen agreed, "These are not questions to give a director. They should be talking about the movie itself."

Did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?

And finally, did Harry spit on Chris at the Venice Film Festival? Olivia insists he did not.

Fans were convinced Harry spat on Chris as he took a seat next to him at the festival earlier this month.

Olivia told Stephen, "No, he did not. But I think it's a perfect example of, like, people will look for drama anywhere they can. Harry did not spit on Chris, in fact..."

Don't Worry Darling is out in cinemas tomorrow.
