The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first day in Ireland

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Ireland on Tuesday afternoon for a three day trip.

Here's a look at what they got up to on their first day in the country.

Prince William and Kate visited President Michael D Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin.

They posed for pictures with the president and his wife.

The group later visited the Peace Bell on the grounds of the property.

They also met Taoiseach Leo Varadkar before visiting the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin.

As per the BBC, the couple laid a wreath with the message, 'May we never forget the lessons of history as we continue to build a brighter future together.'

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also visited the Guinness Storehouse in the city.

Prince William made a speech at the reception, "Ladies and gentlemen, a dhaoine uaisle."

"We are very much looking forward to our next two days in Ireland, where I have no doubt we will continue to be impressed by the creativity, warmth and hospitality the Irish people have to offer."

The Royals later made a visit to the mental health charity Jigsaw in Temple Bar.

After chatting to campaigners, teachers and parents about the charity's work, they visited Love Lane.

The trip ends tomorrow with a visit to Galway and a local GAA club.
