Kevin Spacey and his production companies have been ordered to pay $31m (€27.5m) to MRC, the studio behind House of Cards.

He played the politician Frank Underwood for five seasons of the Netflix series.

But when sexual assault and misconduct allegations were made against him, he was written out of the show for the final season.

Arbitrators have said that Spacey violated his contract with his behaviour and seeing as the studio lost millions rewriting the show, he has to pay up for damages.

Spacey filed a counter-claim for wrongful termination. He also said that the allegations made against him weren't a big a factor in the studio losing money.

The hearing took place in February 2020 with the arbitrators ruling in favour of the studio in July.

Spacey appealed the decision to three more arbitrators but they all agreed with the ruling.
