Clarke only opened up about her hospitalisation last month in an essay titled 'A Battle for My Life.'

In it, she described her first episode as having felt as if, 'an elastic band were squeezing [her] brain.'

'The diagnosis was quick and ominous: a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).'

Which is, 'a life-threatening type of stroke, caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain.'

She underwent brain surgery in the 'National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery' in London.

However, after finishing season three she was told, 'the growth on the other side of [her] brain had doubled in size.'

Clarke underwent surgery which inevitably failed.

'The procedure had failed. My chances of surviving were precarious if they didn't operate again.'

'This time they needed to access my brain in the old-fashioned way—through my skull.'

Thankfully, the surgery worked and the actress spent a month recovering in hospital.

Emilia opens up in recent interview

Over the weekend, Emilia opened up about the process in an interview on CBS On Sunday Morning.

"If a part of your brain doesn't get blood to it for a minute, it will no longer work."

"It's like your short circus so I had that and they didn't know what it was."

"So they were literally looking at the brain being like, 'well we think it could be her concentration, could be her peripheral vision.'"

She jokes, "I always say it's my taste in men... my decent taste in men..."

Emilia goes on to admit, "for a very long time I thought it was my ability to act..."

Here's the full interview:

Emilia has been busy with her new organisation 'SameYou.'

It's a charity dedicated to increasing access to rehabilitation after brain injury and stroke for young people.
