2016 was a crazy busy year for beauty. We tried and we tested and some trends stuck around and some really didn't. Now that the year is winding down, we can take a look back at the most popular trends in the realm of beauty. Will they still be as popular this time next year?

We wait and see.

Here's our top 3 beauty trends for 2016.

Matte, nude, Kylie Jenner lips

Thanks to Kylie Jenner nude pouts were all the rage. We didn't go for anything shimmery, instead, we chose matte finishes that make our lips appear bigger. Colour wise, it was all about the nudes and pale pinks. If there's one particular shade you can guarantee to find in many an A-lister's makeup bag, it's taupe.

At the same time, we started to buy lip gloss again like it was 2007. We never thought we'd see the day when sticky gloopy gloss would be sought after again but boy, were we wrong. Applying a gloss over your matte lipstick gives them extra definition.

Glitter made a comeback

For so long, we were all about matte eye shadow, and glitter really only emerged at festival time. Now, particularly as A/W rolled around, 2016 became defined as a sparkly extravaganza. When we weren't dousing ourselves in glitter, we were back to embracing all kinds of shimmery and irridescent eyeshadows.

Nail extensions

It was the year where getting your nails stuck in between the buttons of your keyboard was an everyday occurrence. Long, manicured nails reigned supreme in 2016. Where last year we kept it nude, this year we all got a bit braver and started experimenting with lots of different nail art. We can thank the Tropical Popical effect for that here in Dublin.
