South African anti-apartheid campaigner Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has died aged 81.
Mrs. Mandela was the former wife of South Africa's first black president, Nelson Mandela.
Born in 1936‚ she moved to Johannesburg in 1957 where she met Nelson Mandela, and they were married a year later.
They had two children together.
Her marriage to Mr. Mandela was short lived however, as he was arrested in 1963 and was eventually released in 1990. The pair divorced in 1996.
Her family say that she died 'peacefully' after a long illness.
