The Christmas travel period is underway and it looks like commuters are in for some chaos over the next few days.

Last night, Met Eireann issued a weather warning for this weekend which will see most of the country battered by heavy rain and winds. On Friday, it will get very windy with gusts reaching up to 120 km/h. Motorists are being advised to drive with extreme caution on their journey home for Christmas.

The weather will have an effect on sea travel too. Irish Ferries have been forced to cancel a number of services on Friday. Have a look at a full list below.

The 'Swift' and 'Oscar Wilde' services are affected, but the company says customers will be accommodated on other ferries tomorrow and on Christmas Eve.

Storm Barbara is set to pass over Ireland this weekend and you can read all about it here.
