2016 has claimed the life of another legend. Carrie Fisher has passed away aged 60.
The actress suffered a heart attack, while on board a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday. It happened 15 minutes before the plane was due to land.
The family's spokesperson Simon Halls has announced she died on Tuesday.
The statement read 'It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.'
Carrie landed the role of Princess Leia when she was just seventeen years old, an iconic character that would define the following seven years of her life.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media from fellow stars and fans.
