An Oireachtas committee tasked with addressing Ireland's abortion laws says says the Eighth Amendment must be changed.

The vote paves the way for 6 possible referendum options to be put to citizens next summer.

The committee will now assess those options, and they must report back by mid December ahead of the referendum which is due to be held in May or June.

It's prompted Consultant Psychiatrist Patricia Casey to refuse to attend a scheduled hearing later this month in protest at last night's vote.
