Medics have welcomed new gender recognition laws for children, but warn changes should be made slowly and carefully.

Under the recommended rule change it should be easier to officially switch from male to female and vice versa.

The laws will apply to all those under the age of 18, however, they will still need parental permission.

Dr Donal O'Shea works in the Medical side of Transgender Care - he thinks the new laws are a big step forward, but says patients need to proceed carefully:

"If it is not done in a slow and pace manner it can lead to regret."
