At least 39 people have been killed, and 69 injured after a gunman opened fire in a nightclub in Istanbul.

The Turkish Interior Minister has said 16 of the victims were foreigners.

Up to 600 people were in the venue at the time of the attack.

Officials say the attacker, who was reportedly dressed in a Santa costume, has not yet been caught.

The White House has described the attack as "horrific" and condemned the 'savagery' of those behind it.
