Another day, another disaster at Facebook HQ.

The social media network accidentally made up to 14 million private posts public.

The incident happened during the 18th - 27th May.

A bug active on the site meant Facebook users who thought they were posting just to friends or smaller groups may have been sharing publicly.

The bug in question was changing users default post settings to 'public' without their knowledge.

The posts were marked 'public' but posters who were used to their default settings most likely would have overlooked the error.

Facebook has stated that the error has since been fixed and the company began to contact all affected users yesterday.
