In a bid to raise viewership, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will be making some changes to the Oscars.

CEO, Dawn Hudson, wrote a letter to members which explained that the board is, ''committed to producing an entertaining show in three hours."

To achieve this, they have decided to present a certain amount of categories during ad breaks live in the Dolby Theatre and to edit them into the broadcast later. These categories have yet to be decided.

They also included in the letter that they "will create a new category for outstanding achievement in popular film."

They have also changed the date of the 92nd Oscars from the 23rd February 2020 to the 9th February 2020.

''The date of the 92nd Oscars telecast will move to Sunday, February 9, 2020, from the previously announced February 23.''

The Academy later added, '

''While the details for a popular film category are still being finalized, a single film is eligible for an Oscar in both categories — Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film and the Academy Award for Best Picture. The new category will be introduced this coming year, at the 91st Oscars. In creating this award, the Board of Governors supports broad-based consideration of excellence in all films.''

That's according to The Hollywood Reporter
