The 90th Academy Awards took place overnight in Hollywood, and thankfully we're talking about this years show for all the right reasons.

The Shape of Water took home the Best Picture award, while the main behind the movie - Guillermo del Toro - also picked up Best Director.

Here's what del Toro had to say after winning the main prize of the evening:

There was disappointment for Saoirse Ronan, who lost out on the best actress prize.

That award went to Frances McDormand for her role in Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri.

She took her opportunity to shine a light on all the female nominees at last nights awards show:

Gary Oldman's role as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour earned him the best actor gong.

Here's the moment he won his first ever Academy Award.

Allison Janney joked that she did it all by herself when she claimed the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in I, Tonya.

On a more serious note, she praised the other nominees in the category, saying they "represent everything that is good, right and human" about the profession.
