Jennifer Lawrence has addressed claims that she was 'rude' to BAFTAs host, Joanna Lumley on Sunday night.

Jennifer gained a mixed reaction on social media, after she took to the stage to present the first award of the night, and seemed to diss the host.

Joanna opened with, "And we start with the award for Outstanding British Film and who better to kick the whole evening off than the hottest actress on the planet".

She continued, "Soon to be seen in Red Sparrow, it’s the ravishing Jennifer Lawrence."

That apparently did not go down well with Jennifer who replied, "Hi, that was a bit much, but thank you Joanna."

However, Jennifer claims that she wasn't being rude at all, despite how it may have looked on camera.

Speaking to Ronan Keating on Magic Radio, she said it was an inside joke.

Jennifer explained to Ronan, 'So, behind the stage, or backstage, Joanna and I are both about to go out," she explained, "and she was going to present me, and I was like just adjective after adjective, just 'tall', 'beautiful', 'just say that I'm this and that', and she was like 'alright darling', and she goes on-stage.'

She continued 'So it was an inside joke. She went on and said all these really nice things about me and then when I got up to the podium, I was like 'that was a bit much'. After I just spent all backstage telling her how to be really nice to me.

'And then everybody thought that I was being rude. But to be fair, I couldn't have just walked out after she was like, 'biggest movie star in the world!' and I'd just walked out and gone 'thank you Joanna'. It would have been like, 'so you agree? You think you're really pretty?'
