The BAFTAs red carpet was dominated by black dresses at the awards last night.
Many stars chose to wear black in solidarity with the Time's Up movement that is sweeping the entertainment industry. A similar gesture was made at the Golden Globes back in January.
Kate Middleton arrived in a green dress, causing a stir on social media, and quite a mixed reaction.
There was a mixed reaction on Twitter last night..
I know the Royals aren’t supposed to get involved with “protests” or anything… but would it really have been THAT bad for Kate Middleton to wear black??? #BAFTAs2018— Rachel McGrath (@RachelMcGrath) February 18, 2018
Ahhh nice to see the feminists out in full force tonight criticising Kate Middleton for having the cheek to CHOOSE whatever she wants to wear tonight! I think she looks gorgeous, this movement doesn't give you a right to dictate how people dress #Katemiddleton— Siobhan Bennett 🤷🏻♀️ (@shivversss) February 18, 2018
I've seen an awful lot of vitriol being directed towards Kate Middleton for her choice of dress at the #BAFTAs. Her outfit was as black as she could get without her breaking royal protocol and shaming her and any other woman is surely the antithesis of the MeToo campaign.— shane telford. Actress Allison Janney has spoken out in defense of Kate Middleton.
Speaking backstage at the BAFTAs, Allison said 'I would never judge anyone's choice. I think she looked absolutely beautiful, and I'm so happy for her, and I think she's an extraordinary woman. And I'm so happy to see she's pregnant again. She can wear whatever she wants to wear.'
