Below are just some of the charities doing incredible work to help people and animals this Christmas.

Oxfam

Oxfam are asking people to give an unexpected meal this Christmas in the form of a donation.

They are specifically fundraising this year to help those affected by severe drought in Somaliland.

Waterborne diseases and lack of food are serious issues in the state and Oxfam are working to supply lifesaving fresh water and food.

Concern Worldwide

Concern are appealing for funds to aid families who have lost everything in South Sudan.

Since 2013, brutal civil conflict has forced almost 2 million people to flee their homes and seek safety in neighbouring countries.

This Christmas you can help supply these people with life-saving food parcels.

St Vincent de Paul

St Vincent de Paul have launched their annual Christmas appeal for donations.

Funds raised will help provide food for families who are struggling, help keep elderly people warm this winter and help young families with education costs.

This Christmas, over 140,000 people in communities across the country will ask SVP for help with food, fuel and basic clothing.

Team Hope

Team Hope run their Christmas Shoe Box Appeal annually, asking people to fill a shoe box with gifts to send to vulnerable children.

Although this year's shoe boxes are already on their way to Kenya it's not too late to donate an online shoebox.

Donate a minimum of €15 and the Team Hope team in rural Africa will put together a box in your name.

Dogs Trust

Dogs Trust are asking the public to Paws For Thought before getting a dog as a Christmas present this year.

Last year 12,549 dogs entered Irish pounds and Dogs Trust had a 58% spike in surrender requests. You can help by spreading the message with #PawsForThought on social media.

Alternatively you can sponsor a dog via their website and if you do before December 19th you'll get a Dogs Trust Christmas decoration in the post before the big day.

Barnardos

Barnardos are asking you to help make a child's Christmas this year by donating to their cause.

3,194 children are living in emergency accommodation this Christmas.

You can also purchase one of their Gifts For Good. You’ll be sent an individual card with envelope to pass on to a loved one and your money will directly benefit a child or family Barnardos works with.

Temple Street Foundation

Temple Street are appealing for toys for sick children.

They have a really helpful list on their website with toy suggestions suitable for children of different ages.

You can then contact the Temple Street Foundation and arrange to drop off your present.

Focus Ireland

Over 3,000 children are homeless today and urgently need help.

You can make a once off or regular donation with just €40 helping Focus Ireland to reach a family in crisis when they lose their home.

Peter McVerry Trust

8,500 people will be homeless in Ireland this Christmas.

The Peter McVerry trust is calling for people and businesses to donate to their cause.

Dublin Simon Community
