Straight hair is back and we've got Kim Kardashian to thank for it. Gone are the big bouncy curls, replaced by smooth sleek hair, paired with a choker. Yes, it feels like the 90s all over again, but at least we now have nicer eyebrows.

After years of backcombing and styling, it's time to get back to basics.

But with so many hair tools out there, it's hard to keep up.

Introducing the Babyliss Diamond Heated Smoothing Brush...

BaByliss Diamond Heated Smoothing Brush 2440BDU

It's described as a heated brush for 'fast, easy smoothness with visible shine. Perfect for straightening kinky or frizz-prone hair without flattening to give you beautifully smooth hair with natural volume.'

We got our hands on it to try out here in SPIN, and I must admit, I'm not overly keen on the 'flat' look so I was a little hesitant. But the description is bang on, it really does straighten your hair without flattening it.

Why will I like this?

If you don't like the 'flat as a pancake look', you're in for a treat. It doesn't flatten your hair like ceramic straighteners. Instead you get a freshly blow dried look and you get to keep your natural volume. You don't need to be an expert to use it effectively: it's straight forward, zero hassle and light enough to carry around in your handbag. If you have something on in the evening and need to get ready in work (is there anything worse than getting ready in the work bathrooms?!), this brush will save your life. Instead of forking out on a blow dry, you can run the brush over your hair a couple of times, get rid of your embarrassing hair tie kink and be the glam b***h you've always intended to be.

What kind of hair will it suit?

If you have fine or frizzy hair, the brush will plump it up nicely giving it a smooth look. If you have thick hair, it's going to take a little longer to do, but the end result will be worth it.

Think less 'Monica in Barbados' and more 'Rachel in Central Perk'.

Overall verdict

It's pricey, but worth it when you think of the money you'll save on professional blow-dries. It's also really easy to use, and hassle free, which is always a bonus.

Sidenote - If you do get a professional blow-dry, this will make it last and last. The smoothing brush is ideal for the next day or even the day after that to get rid of those flyaway fuzzy bits. Use it with some dry shampoo and you'll look like you've just walked out of the salon again.

The result

My hair had been in a bun all day and had a massive kink in it. This is what it looked like after less than 5 minutes..
